Is the inPulse a BlackBerry on your wrist? Umm, that would be a No. It is a BlackBerry smartphone accessory, which means you must already own a BlackBerry. In a nutshell, inPulse allows you to view information from your BlackBerry on your wrist. It is however a user friendly watch in its own right and instead of fiddling with small buttons on your watch, you can set the clock, multiple alarms and lots more all from the comfort of the keyboard and screen on your BlackBerry.
BUT. Yes, there is always a but. The excerpt below is taken directly from Allerta’s inPulse Smartwatch website promoting their new smartphone accessory, released in the US February 2010.
“inPulse is the perfect BlackBerry smartphone accessory – it’s a watch which connects wirelessly to your phone by BlueTooth®, alerting you instantly to incoming emails, SMS and calls…”
We highlighted this because unfortunately the word perfect is slightly misleading in our opinion. You see, the inPulse Smartwatch but doesn’t actually send messages. It does do lots of rather cool stuff though, and comes with a 1.3-inch OLED display, glass lens, vibrating motor, full metal body, microUSB port and rechargeable battery that lasted for approximately three full days.
- Glance down at inPulse to quickly see who is calling thanks to the built-in vibrating motor which alerts you immediately to incoming calls
- A quick glance down at your wrist is all it takes to discreetly check recently received email and SMS messages
- Elegant user interface that grabs information such as caller ID, text messages, email titles, calendar alerts
Other settings include custom alarms and timers as well as sleep times and message filters that can be easily modified using the screen and keyboard.
The smartphone accessory market is one to watch, if you’ll pardon the pun, and whilst the inPulse Smartwatch is a beautiful looking device with lots of great features, we just couldn’t get passed the fact one can’t send messages.
