Apple confirmed recently that consumer reports of earbuds for the iPhone & iPods causing small electric shocks are indeed, quite possible!
Apple iPods are capable of building up static electricity in certain conditions, for example dry, windy locations tend to result in the earbuds charging up with static electricity. But that’s not the only cause. In fact, as Apple themselves say, “Taking your device in and out of your pocket can create a static charge,” and additionally “Jogging or exercising with your device can cause a static charge.”
So, should you ever put your iPod in your pocket, or listen to music at the gym (that covers most of us we suspect!), then be prepared for a little zap every now and then to keep things interesting.
Static electricity shocks are usually minor and infrequent, so we don’t suggest handing in your Apple gadgets for fear of your life!
